Sixty years after the fall of the Third Reich, the secret Nazi archive with millions of files on concentration camps and their victims is still being kept secret.
Two benefits of the open records process are:
- Changing human behavior and
- Building community trust.
Embarrassment and shame very effectively change individual’s behavior. The Nazi archives will probably embarrass the descendents and still living perpetrators of the definitive 20th Century evil. One can only hope that human behavior has been changed forever.
Communities never completely trust their governments. The successor regimes to the Nazis would do well to remember this, and we encourage this generation to demonstrate the courage missing in the previous one. Release all the records, now.
